Walking Poles • Urban Poling • Series 700 - Hiking Edition

SKU

Urban Poling fitness poles designed by Nordic walking pioneer Tom Rutlin and a panel of Canadian therapists, uses the specialized technique called Exerstriding, also called the Rutlin Technique. It differs from the 'European Style' technique later developed in Scandinavia.

Rutlin Technique teaches the straight arm plant (long lever) and is intended to bring about "greater involvement of large core strength muscles" found in the upper body, this differs from the bent arm plant (short lever) commonly used in the 'European Style' technique.

The poles designed for Urban Poling do not have straps or demi-gloves as European styled poles do. Instead, Urban Poles uses an ergonomic strapless grips that has a large flared portion at the base of the grip. This grip comes into play with the Rutlin Technique and how the poles are planted while walking.

"I've been doing some experimenting with planting my poles further forward (just like Tom Rutlin teaches!) unlike Nordic Walking 'European Style' that teaches planting the tips further back and guess what? I find that my Abdominal muscles get a better workout? Now am I imagining this? Why don't you have a go and decide for yourself?" - David Downer, Nordic Walking eCommunity - Wednesday, 20 June 2007

Urban Poling Series 700 (Hiking Edition)

The Urban Poling Series 700 (Hiking Edition) is an upgraded version of our original Series 300 "Fitness Edition"  – the #1 Selling Nordic Walking Fitness Poles! The Series 700 (Hiking Edition) is equipped with the same functionality as the Series 300 "Fitness Edition" but we have increased the versatility of these poles by equiping them with removable mud and snow baskets.

Whether used for Nordic walking or Hiking the "Series 700" poles are designed for more extreme walking and trekking conditions (snow, ice, loose rocks, mud and other unstable surfaces)

Our exclusively designed poles have the following unique features:

  • The ERGO/CORE strapless handle is designed to more effectively target major core muscles (One mile of walking equals 1800 abdominal muscles contractions and 900 of lateral back muscles). The ergonomic handles drastically absorb shock and vibration when poling on city surfaces reducing the transfer of energy directly into your arms, preventing joint injuries.
  • Our one size fits all telescoping poles with a premium locking system is the perfect travel companion and space saver.  Ideal for individuals between 4’2” and 6'2" in height. Unlike other fix length poles on the market the variable length could be easily adjusted to each person’s body proportions and is ideal for perfecting the basic training technique, users can also adjust the poles depending on the terrain.
  • The Urban Traction Tips are designed to help to reduce stress on hip and knee joints while propelling the walker forward at a greater speed than walking.  This fitness activity also provides an increased workout and promotes better posture. Under the boot-like tips are durable carbide metal tips (for snow, ice, beach + trail).
  • Convert your summer poles into hiking and winter poles with these removable mud and snow baskets that prevent your poles from sinking into soft ground or snow.

All Urban Poling products come with a 100% comprehensive two year product guarantee.
